About us

Keeping bees in & around the Quantock Hills

New, better Website coming soon!

Me and my bees

My name is Elaine Falkingham.

I have been keeping bees since 2011 and care deeply for their survival and nurture - as I do for all wildlife.

All of the hives are regularly inspected and maintained to the highest standards.

As past chair and Committee member of Quantock Bee Keepers Association was often involved in the training of new beekeepers.

Honey production

The production of honey is a natural process.  It's not possible to ask the bees to produce runny or set honey!

You get what nature gives you based on the types of flowers and plants the bees can access within a 3 mile radius of their hive. It always tastes wonderful!

The hives are all located within 3 miles of my home in Holford.
I produce my own queens in Summer, selecting bees with the best temperament to breed from

The Quantock Hills

This part of Somerset is England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

But the bees don't know that of course!

For them it is a wonderful feeding ground containing a mix of agricultural crops, garden flowers and plants, local trees, shrubs and of course heather from the top of the Quantock hills in the summer.

Beeswax products

The excess wax that is collected during the year is put to good use and turned into candles which burn well for a long time - and smell heavenly!

I also produce my own food wax wraps - such a sensible alternative to cling film and plastic.

You can see more of what I produce on this website.

 Nature working for you

In today's increasingly complicated world many people are turning to more natural products.

You may have seen press comment in 2019 about honey supplied by some supermarkets and other large chains - and how some of the content is potentially dubious.  Their labels will say their honey is a  'product of EU and other countries'.  Some of these countries allow the use of antibiotics in the beekeeping process - and in some cases it is alleged sugar solution is added to the product. 'Honey fraud' is now seen as a major problem in the global honey industry

The UK honey industry is very strictly regulated and locally produced honey has to satisfy much more stringent standards. Of course it is more expensive than supermarket honey - because it is the real thing!!

If you want to be sure your honey contains natural ingredients buy single source, locally produced honey.

“This honey is just the best I have ever tasted. I keep coming back for more. And my family all love it..”
NS, Taunton
“The candles last a lot longer than I had imagined... and they give off such a pleasant natural aroma”
AD, Holford
“The wax wraps really do keep my food fresh. Cheese doesn't 'sweat' like it used to in cling film.”
DF, Barnsley
